Philippe Bronchtein is a Nashville-based producer, composer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose work bridges Americana, indie rock, and cinematic composition. A versatile player on pedal steel, keyboards, guitars, banjo, dobro, and synths, Bronchtein first gained recognition in the Pacific Northwest under the moniker Hip Hatchet, building a devoted following through extensive U.S. and international touring. He later joined indie outfit Quiet Life, touring alongside artists including The Head and the Heart, Portugal. The Man, and Dr. Dog while contributing keys, synths, and arrangements to the band’s recordings.

Alongside his touring career, Bronchtein steadily developed his voice as a producer and arranger. Back in Portland, he produced records for emerging Northwest artists and collaborated with engineer Tim Shrout on Balto’s acclaimed album Strangers. He later toured as guitarist for Esme Patterson, performing at major festivals and supporting artists such as Sarah Jarosz, San Fermin, and Brett Dennen.

After relocating to Nashville, Bronchtein became an in-demand touring and session musician, joining The War and Treaty during the band’s rapid rise. With the group, he performed at renowned festivals including the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, and Montreal International Jazz Festival, while sharing stages with artists such as Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile, and Al Green.

Following the pandemic-era expansion of his home studio, Bronchtein increasingly focused on remote recording, production, and composition work. He contributed pedal steel and multi-instrumental performances for artists including Pony Bradshaw, Mickey Guyton, and Chase Rice, appearing on nationally televised performances including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Today, and the American Music Awards.

At the end of 2024, Bronchtein stepped away from full-time touring to focus entirely on composition and production for film, television, and advertising. Since making that transition, he has composed music for campaigns and branded content for companies including Lexus, Budweiser, McDonald's, and Old El Paso, while continuing to produce records and score visual media from his Nashville studio. Drawing from years of touring, songwriting, and instrumental performance, Bronchtein brings a deeply human, song-forward approach to modern composition and production.
